The new European Entry/Exit System

The Entry/Exit System (EES) is an automated information system designed to register the entry and exit of third-country nationals (i.e., persons from outside the EU or EEA) when crossing the EU’s external borders. Its purpose is to ensure better identification of these individuals, prevent overstaying of permitted periods, and enhance security during border checks.

What will this mean for passengers traveling from Poprad-Tatry Airport?

  • Arrive in advance – it is recommended to arrive 3 hours before departure if you are flying outside the Schengen area.

  • Have your travel documents ready – a valid passport, visas, or proof of visa-free stay, if applicable.

  • Cooperate with border control – biometric data (e.g., fingerprints, facial photograph) may be required for third-country nationals.

Thank you for your cooperation.

The implementation of the EES is an important step toward enhancing security and travel efficiency at the EU’s external borders. At Poprad-Tatry Airport, we are prepared for this change and are doing everything possible to ensure your journey continues as smoothly as possible.

Information about the EES system, as well as answers to frequently asked questions, are available on the website of the Ministry of the Interior of the Slovak Republic: https://www.minv.sk/?ees-system-vstup-vystup
